Surf Locations

We operate our surf lessons from Croyde Bay and Putsborough Beach. The locations are dictated by the prevailing wind, swell and tide conditions.

Croyde is a fantastic beach break which can be very fast and tubing at low tide, but more forgiving at fuller tides. Croyde also has a high tide reef break when the swell is a reasonable size and also a classic point break. The outer reef 'Oysters' breaks when the swell is huge and is generally accessible only by boat or long paddle out in dangerous rip conditions - not for beginners !

Putsborough is protected by the headland on South Westerly winds and is a good sheltered spot when everywhere else is blown out by the wind. Its also a smaller wave then Croyde, so is great for beginners when Croyde is too big or too busy.

There are lifeguards patrolling the beaches at Croyde in the summer months, plus the RAF rescue helicopter making regular patrols around the coastal area from the marines base at Chivenor. The coast guard is often seen at the beach, keeping an eye out for trouble.

Come and enjoy the scenery and sandy beaches and see the beautiful sunsets over the sea. Summertime is great for a late 'sunset surf', just make sure you come back in before it's dark.

Forecasting Tools

Forecasting tools can help you predict when the swell might hit or can be used just to see what the weather is doing.

Our customers have asked us where to find information on current surf conditions and how to predict the swell for the weekend, so we thought it was high time we collected some good links and added this section to our site !

Remember that surf forecasting, like weather forecasting, is not an exact science so even with these tools you just never know if that classic swell is going to hit or not! The more often you get to the coast, the more likely you are to get some classic surf days.
